RMR – Skowhegan, ME Event Preview - Feb 22, 2008

DERRY, NH (Feb. 22, 2008) - Every winter now for the past four years, hundreds of snowmobile race teams from around the northeast have traveled to Skowhegan, Maine, for a weekend of competition in the place where it all began. This bustling town, like Lancaster, NH, was host to some of the biggest ice oval races east of Eagle River from the 1960s to the 1980s.
Today, it's the high-flying antics of snocross they all come to see. The region's top professional and amateur riders will return once again as Rock Maple Racing (RMR) invades the Skowhegan Fairgrounds, Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 1-2, for Round 6 on the nine-race 2007-08 Central series snocross schedule.
Spectator gates will open at 8 a.m. both days, with racing getting under way at 9 a.m. sharp. Admission is $12 per day for adults, with weekend passes available for $20. Children under the age of five will be admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes valid through the entire weekend will be available for an extra $10.
This event is presented in part by your local Dodge dealer. Save $3 on adult general admission with a Super Discount Coupon. Stop by your local dealer and get yours, while supplies last.
Leading the charge into Skowhegan are Pro riders C.W. Sirjane and Jason Boron. Sirjane (XP-S/Harrison Motorsports Ski-doo), of Whitehall, NY, held a slim five-point lead over Boron (Outdoor Performance/D&Z Racing Ski-doo) after six races, with rookie sensation Darrin Mees in third just seven markers back. In Pro Stock, Sirjane led Danny Poirier (Cycle Worx/Polaris) by a mere three points with Boron a close third. The battle for the 2008 RMR Pro crown is about to heat up in Skowhegan.
In the ultra-competitive Semi-Pro division, Jason Stone has been consistent since the season opener at Whaleback in early December. Stone, of Central Square, NY, led newcomer Robert Graeber by 16 points after six races in the Stock class. Stone also led the points in Semi-Pro Open, with National Guard Shootout winner Chris Chico second (-14 points) and Graeber third (24 points back). Graeber will be gunning for wins in Skowhegan after missing a recent points race (Essex Jct., VT) while competing at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.
Riders of local interest include Ryan Scripture, of Carmel. Scripture now rides for Wallingford Racing out of Auburn, Maine, and is piloting the new Arctic Cat Sno Pro 600 entry this season. The former motocross racer has come a long way in snocross competition and will be battling for a podium finish in his home state.
Other Maine-based riders expected to compete this weekend include Hilary Hewitt (Newcastle); Cody Wallingford (Auburn); Michael Gustus (Sabattus); Jason Soucy (Sabattus)and hometown favorite Jacoby Johnson (Skowhegan).
Last year at Skowhegan, Boron dominated the Dodge Dealers Pro Open final, grabbing the holeshot and building a huge lead by halfway. Sirjane thrilled the huge crowd Sunday as he recorded his first-ever Pro division victory in RMR competition. Sirjane held off a late-race charge from Poirier to claim the Pro 440 final, with New York’s Jason Rudd (Ingles Performance/Ruddman Racing Ski-doo) third.
