Northeast Kingdom Trail Conditions
General Northeast Kingdom Trail Conditions
March 11th, 2010
Trail conditions are poor to decent in the NEK. Grooming has been taking place when temperatures dip below freezing. You may have to ride over some rough terrain to access the good trails and with the temperatures warming up above freezing, conditions are subject to change at any time. The high elevations have some good riding, however access to these areas may be a challenge and logging any considerable amount of miles in the high snow areas will be limited.

There is some fair to good riding in the highest elevations. Heavy, wet snow has fallen across much of the state. This was followed by heavy rains which only added to the moisture content of the snow. Some areas were packed, however no grooming will be taking place until the temperatures drop once again. Currently the temps are expected to be in the mid thirties for the next few days with more rain/snow expected. The trails are very wet with lots of slush and ice, and many have not been packed. Conditions are not all that favorable at this time, but there is still some riding if you use some common sense and caution. We recommend checking with local clubs for the most up to date reports!
Buckaroos of 302
WARNING Logging operation in Groton State Forest between Boulder Beach Road and Kettle Pond Crossing on trail rt. C2/302. REMEMBER the logging trucks, skidders, pick-ups are bigger than a snowmobile. You must slow down if you want to live.
March 8: There is no snow in the forecast but we can expect colder temperatures at night so we will try to groom as often as possible. There is still good snow cover in the "gore" and "loop" trail rts. 302, 302C and 2004. Butterfield parking lot is snow covered. There is still snow cover at Jct. CA 10 and over the hill to the RR bed rts. 302, 302A and C 2/302. Plan to turn around when you hit dirt. The trail in Peacham from CA 13 & CA 14 to trail rt. 234 is closed. No snow. The trail from CA 4 at Ricker Pond down to the Upper Valley Grill is still closed. No snow.
Please note that there is a curfew and posted speed limit on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. The curfew is posted from 11PM to 6AM, and the speed limit is 35 MPH. These will be enforced by law enforcement agencies as future use of this trail depends on compliance.
Danville S-Ski-Mo's
There are multiple logging operations in the vicinity of CA105, please follow the signs as hauling activity will vary on a daily basis.
Caledonia County Snowmobile Trails Club
Trails around St. Johnsbury are closed and gated. Please respect the landowners that allow us to cross their properties and do not open any gates. If we get measurable snow, we will open the trails if the landowners agree. Sugaring season is upon us and some trails will be closed until next season. This season is the worst we have endured here in years. Let's hope we never see another season like this again!
Waterford Ridge Runners
Our trails are closed. We do not have many gates to prevent people from traveling on the trail system but we hope that common sense prevails and riders respect the wishes of the landowners that generously allow us to cross their properties.

Brighton Snowmobile Club
This will more than likely be the last trail report of the season. Please listen carefully to the following:
114S and 58 West have been closed and gated. Trail 114C from the downtown area through the park and railroad yard have been closed. The only riding left is in the mountain trails north of Island Pond towards Norton. These trails were groomed Monday night and probably for the last time this season. Looking at the long range forecast, it would appear that spring is here.
Anyone daring to venture out there at this time and at your own risk, it is even more important that we stress the fact that you should definitely stay off any and all bodies of water!
We would like to take this time to thank each and every one of you for being a member of the Brighton Snowmobile Club in Island Pond, Vermont; the Snowmobile Capital of Vermont!
Have a great and safe spring, summer and fall and don’t forget, Island Pond is here year around and not just in the winter, so come and visit us during the summer months and enjoy our 600+ acre mountain lake and take a scenic motorcycle ride throughout Vermont’s gorgeous Northeast Kingdom.
Thank you and stay well everyone!
